flashback---

feeling like a starter again ;D. this is the kind of work that i do back in the days when after leaving art school---you job hunt, and prove yourself on how viable are your design ideas in the job market. i have always wanted to work in an ad agency---i tried my luck once at j. walter thompson (manila) appyling for a junior artist--but i didnt make it--because the competition weighted so much on: how prolific you are in 'anatomy drawing' by way of storyboard--and that was in the late '80s. all  the applicants are guys my age--fresh art grads, there was one --yes girl--gay/tomboy--we were more or less7 applicants then who took the test---and boy--they were all--prolific--in human figure...sigh..i ran out of the building fast...

and --oh--there was another one, yeah i remember--because that is how i was so eager to be in the world of mainstream advertising; because it was my major in my undergrad 'advertising art' years.
i tried applying again--to a smaller advertising firm--that does i think mainly--ads for prints--as collaterals, posters, flyers, and so forth. i was called and scheduled for interview and exam. i knew i made it---but--to  disclose, for the record--after keeping this for a thousand years to self--i backed out--why? hahahaha---i can't stand the soooo0 handsome art director that i am going to closely work with--it was just a small firm--modestly staffed to a more or less 10 people. i dont know what has gotten into me! i never returned on the agreed day to start working with them--even though they tried calling back...sigh..haha....my loss? to this day, who knows?

my first job ever ;D --- was with  a company that manufacture clothes wear and sold over department stores nationwide. i design the prints. and it went that way for years as i switch companies from one to another. i always landed working as an artist/designer on women's wear. and that time,i gave up on ad agencies.

to date, i am into these. again: somebody asks me to do textile art accessories for them,
i draw them first--esp if that somebody is so much into details; me gets the feedback and suggestions and preferences--show it again--and then--execute into a final output/form. in the world of 'art' they classify it as: applied art.

perhaps...

this is the 'natural' thing to do, like your mind, body, MOUTH ;D, soul and spirit yearns for it----when you have been slaving yourself with work in the workforce and work in workhome for years! sigh....but no sigh...;D

the day when i took the day-off from it all! ;D
            (i'm wishing too---its like these every day...lol--or
                       the day never ends...)

so in love these days with what the cams in mobiles ;D can do for your almost daily visual documentations. the qualities that you  would like to put some pretty quick effects; the light and shadow corrections, and then lets you play a little bit further with colours...

the vignette effect from light to dark gives a wonderful effect on many of the faulty pictures i've taken ;D
and on that picture--is the soon 'inspiration' to the 'art pins' i will be creating--adapting some colour theory explorations on the upcoming pins. that is also the attire i've used for work the other day.

behind me is an installation of discarded classroom chairs painted all in white; pretty amazing.
and the fone cam's effect is the lomo.

i am working on a batch of custom request art pins that will be off for bkk, thailand--soonish.

the fone cam's effect--is diminished saturation, adjustments on highlights and shadows and then, finishing it off--with a vignette.dreamy.

the other day i sprinted towards the old favourite fastfood that i seldom get to visit nowadays and ordered this burger steak with rice and smothered it with dijon mustard, tomato catsup, and finally the fastfood chain's so very hot sauce on top after each other. my tastebud's opinion on all burgers is that--it has to have mustard and catsup on it when gorged.

light and shadow corrected and then vignette yeps on fone cam.

_______________________________________________

here, i turned the 'documentary effect' too much highlight tho and i dont get to adjust anymore the shadows. its just that --its given. i keep reminding myself, that of course--it isn't an adobe photoshop.

from the original foto by fone's cam. yours truly's thigh and legs-haha.
all because my platform wedgies are new! yay! a very rare treat to self since i am always lured and attracted to the 'raw materials' for my future bunch of 'art pins'

and moi ;D posing after church.
the effect: black and white; saturation, colour adjustment, and finally vignette.
being immersed with the visual art and its actual production makes it more exciting to experiment and play with the technical effects within almost everyone's reach. amazing times.

enjoy it too with yours! ;D

i[ve been reading a book by rachel ashwell

yes, the woman and her now shabby chic 'couture'. i have first encountered her works and preachings ;D in the early 90s, sans the net yet ;D i mean, thru lifestlye zine write-ups. her ideas and influence is a great contribution to the world of design.  i should say i am just one of the many, many of them across the world whom she has shed a light on---celebrating the beauty of imperfection/s, marred, falling a part, patinas, well-worn, used, dents and marks of time, florentines, history...
home, and comfort...
and you know the catch? the 'ideas' she ranted about, and visualized on, more than a decade ago--isn't just a simple quick learning of style,  sponging, and being influenced instantly, -i should say--go sit and immerse with her,and experience similarly at least--the path she tread...
a salute to rachel ashwell
